JANESVILLE, Wis. - The RU men's golf team began its season on Friday and Saturday at the Culver's Edgewood College Invite. The invitational took place at Glen Erin Golf where each participant played a pair of 18 hole rounds. Rockford had four golfers play at the invite and as a team the Regents finished in ninteenth place.
The top perfomer for for Rockford was senior Justin Christiansen (Rockford, Ill.). Christiansen was the only Regent to fire two rounds in the 80s including an 81 which was team's lowest single round score of the invite. Christiansen's final score of +35 put him in a tie for 80th place.
Freshman Aren Boxleitner (Rockford, Ill.) and junior Francis Souhala (Rockford, Ill.) carded identical rounds each of the two days. Both individuals shot a 91 on Friday and followed that up with an 86 on Saturday. They each finished in a tie for 96th place.
Senior Alex Schleich (Freeport, Ill.) was the final golfer to comprise Rockford's team score. Schleich recorded rounds of 97 and 90 to finish in 102nd place.
The RU golf team returns to action next weekend at the Marian University Fall Invite.
