ROCKFORD, Ill. - The RU cross country teams participated in their second virtual meet in less than a week this Tuesday at the Regent Relays. The relays consisted of athletes being broken into pairs to complete the 6 mile race, with the top two pairs from each school making up the team score. The RU men's team finished fifth in a tough field of 11 teams, including defeating a pair of CCIW schools, while the women's team placed seventh out of eight schools.
Men's Results - 6 Mile
- Rockford's top finish of the day came from the duo of Christopher Duron Jr. and Dominick Welte. They combined to complete the race in 32:38 and finished in 14th place.
- The Regents' other scoring team was Antoine Callebaut and Ryan Sweeney. The duo crossed the finish line in 33:45 to place 20th.
- Rockford's final team consisted of Luca Bartolo and Enrique Perez. They completed the race in 37:50 and finished 34th.
Women's Results - 6 Mile
- The RU women's team was led by the team of Kellie Frerichs and Victoria Folmar. The duo finished in 18th place with a time of 42:48.
- Emily Teagardin and Annabelle Stefanic was the other duo that contributed to Rockford's team score. The ladies crossed the finish line in a combined time of 47:38 and finished in 26th place.
- The Regents' final team was Abigail Wagner and Taylor Mundt. They finished the race in 27th place with a time of 49:44.
"Both teams ran exceptionally well, even though our last race was only a few days ago," Head Coach James Diamond stated. "It's clear that the Rockford University cross country program has already begun taking huge steps forward through our first two races. The men's fifth place finish was significant because it's the first time we've been able to put together a complete team effort from our first to our last runner. The women also ran a very aggressive race, with our returners, Kellie, Annabelle and Taylor, either having one or multiple segments faster than the 1 mile time trial they ran at the end of the summer. "
As of now, Rockford's next scheduled virtual meet is on Friday, October 15 at the North Park Virtual Invite.
