ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's and women's cross country teams once again opened their seasons at home at the Rock River Invite. Both teams ran a 5k race that weaved around the RU campus and featured about 30 runners for each gender. The men's team won the meet with five individuals finishing in the top nine, including three of the top four. Rockford's
Miles Lang won the 5k race after finishing in third place last year. The women's team finished in third place and had a pair of runners finish in the top five.

Men's Results
- Three of Rockford's six runners broke their personal best time in the 5k race and two more ran in their first collegiate meet.
- Miles Lang won his first collegiate race on Friday. Lang's 5k time of 17:00.8. was also a personal record for him by almost 51 seconds.
- Nicholas Greenland finished in third place in his first collegiate race. Greenland crossed the finish line with a time of 17:29.1.
- James Wallis completed the 5k in 17:39.0 to lower his personal record by nearly nine seconds. Wallis finished in fourth place in the race.
- Gavin Collier finished in 7th place and lowered his personal best time in the 5k by over a minute with a time of 18:22.8.
- JJ Newlin came in 9th place with a time of 20:05.5.
- Michael Roberson crossed the finish line in 26:15.4 to finish in 22nd place.
Women's Results
- The ladies had three of their seven runners set new personal records in the 5k and two more who were running in their first collegiate race.
- Rebekah Starwalt was the top finisher on the women's side. Starwalt finished in third place with a time of 21:01.1.
- Brianna Torres came in fifth place with a new personal best time of 21:38.5. Her time was almost two minutes lower than her previous best.
- Isabella Trout finished in 11th place in her first collegiate race. Trout completed the 5k in 23:12.3.
- Haylee West crossed the finish line in 23:47.1. West came in 13th place in her first collegiate 5k race.
- Donna Whiteside obliterated her 5k personal record by almost four minutes. Whiteside crossed the finish line in 27:46.4 to finish in 23rd place.
- Kieran Madigan finished in 24th place with a personal best time of 31:06.4. She lowered her personal record in the 5k by 25 seconds.
- Mia Cosentino came in 28th place with a time of 33:47.9.
