Rockford University is excited to announce Bruce Williams as the new head coach of the Regents' women's basketball program. Williams is a 1998 alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications.
Williams comes to Rockford after serving as associate head coach at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point during the 2025–26 season. In that role, he developed offensive and defensive game plans, prepared scouting reports, and assisted with in-game strategy and recruiting, while also leading the team’s leadership development program.
Prior to his promotion, he spent the 2024–25 season as an assistant coach at UW–Stevens Point, helping guide the Pointers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years. The team ranked second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in scoring defense, allowing just 56.4 points per game. During that season, he coached two All-WIAC selections and helped the team achieve a 3.86 GPA.
Williams also served as an assistant coach at Cornell College during the 2023–24 season. He played a key role in recruiting a highly impactful class that helped the program reach the conference tournament for the first time in five years. The first-year class accounted for more than 50 percent of minutes played and 64 percent of the team’s scoring, including the Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year and D3hoops.com Region 9 Rookie of the Year.
Before transitioning to the collegiate level, Williams spent over a decade coaching at Wild Rose High School (Wis.). He served as head girls varsity coach from 2005–15, leading the program to three conference championships and three regional final appearances. He also coached multiple conference players of the year and contributed to the boys varsity program as an assistant coach. In addition, he directed youth basketball development programs for grades 3–12.
Beyond coaching, Williams brings significant leadership experience, having founded and led a nonprofit organization supporting foster children and families. He also previously served as executive director of ancillary services at Wild Rose Hospital, overseeing multiple departments, managing a multi-million-dollar budget, and leading strategic growth initiatives.
