Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sabres Silence Regents

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The men's soccer team has had some difficulties finding the back of the net in 2012 and that trend continued on Saturday. The Regents have had to rely on solid defense and stellar goaltending to give themselves a chance at the end of the games. Rockford was shutout again on Saturday but did a much better job of putting pressure on the opposing defense. The Regents were able to get seven shots in the game which is the most that Rockford has had in a single game since September 15th when they also took seven shots. However, it was not enough as Rockford fell to Marian University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Offensively Rockford continues to be led by some of its younger players. It was freshman Neil Moallem (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) who took team-high 3 shots for the Regents. Moallem has taken 6 shots so far this season and scored one goal. Fellow freshman Devin Standard (Monroe Center, Ill./Stillman Valley) took the lone shot on goal for the Regents in Saturday's loss. Standard has been the Regents best offensive player so far this season. The freshman has scored a team-high 2 goals in his first season in a Regents uniform.

2011 Second Team All-NAC goalie Mick Goulding (Midlothian, Ill./Brenen) continues to play at a very high level for Rockford. Goulding shutout the Sabres in the first half before allowing a goal very early in the second half which turned out to be the difference. Goulding was under attack the entire match making 12 saves in 14 chances. It is the seventh time in 12 games this season that Goulding has made at least ten saves.

The men's soccer team returns to the field on October 7th at Carthage College. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
