ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford College women's basketball team fell to Coe College 75-44 at the Seaver Center on Saturday afternoon. The first half went back and fourth as both offenses struggled to get anything going early on. Rockford took a 8-7 lead early in the 1st half when junior guard Sherrell Woods (Rockford, Ill./East) made a layup with 14:45 remaining in the first half. The Kohawks defense got them back in the game as they forced the Regents into 20 first half turnovers with many leading to easy transition layups. Coe would make a late first half run to take a 36-25 lead into the break.
The momentum would carry into the 2nd half for Kohawks as they jumped out of the gates with a 20-9 run to start the half. Many of those points again came in the form of easy transition lay ups as the Kohawks beat the Regents down the floor off of missed shots. The Regents continued to fight to get back in the game in the 2nd half but it was too little too late. The Kohawks forced the Regents into 35 turnovers with 21 of them coming on steals. The Regents did a good job rebounding the ball collecting 11 offensive rebounds to Coe's 10 and despite a subpar shooting night finished the game tied at 33 rebounds apiece.
The Regents were led by sophomore guard Cierra Johnson (St. Louis, Mo./O'Fallon Township) who finished with a team-high 11 points and 7 rebounds. Junior guard Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the Regents.
The Regents will return to the court on Wednesday when they welcome the Ashford University Saints to the Sever Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
