EUREKA, Ill. - It was another difficult day for the Regents men's basketball team on Friday as they hit the road to play the Eureka College Red Devils. Eureka jumped on Rockford early in the first half and never looked back. The Red Devils opened the game on a 16-1 run and the Regents were never able to recover falling 82-63. Rockford is now 21-39 against Eureka all-time.
In spite of the loss Rockford was able to improve certain aspects of its play. The Regents did a good job defensively forcing 14 turnovers including coming up with 8 steals. Despite being undersized, the Regents also fought hard on the glass grabbing 48 rebounds to the Red Devils 50. Rockford's bench was much improved from the team's previous game scoring 27 of the teams 63 points. The group was led by freshman Nik Crowell (Madison, Ala./Columbia) who had 7 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist in just 9 minutes.
Starting guards Tory Minnifield (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) and Scott Suchy (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) tied for the team-high with 11 points and 2 assists. Minnifield added three rebounds while Suchy grabbed two rebounds.
The Regents will open Northern Athletics Conference play on November 27th on the road against Dominican University. Rockford won both meetings against Dominican last season including a 71-63 win at Dominican. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
