ELGIN, Ill. - The Regents took to the road on Friday to face the Judson University Eagles in their final game before the holidays looking to avoid a season-long five game losing streak. Rockford got off to a great starting jumping out to a quick 10-4 lead just under four minutes into the game and had a balanced attack getting points from four of its five starters. The ladies maintained their lead for the majority of the half and would eventually extend the lead up to game-high 10 points with 6:17 left in the first half. However, the Eagles promptly went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 26-26 less than four minutes later. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half as the two teams entered halftime tied at 30.
After Rockford controlled nearly the entire first half of play, Judson would dominate the second half. The Regents could not get anything going over the final 20 minutes of play on Friday. Rockford was held just 13 points in the second half on 2-27 shooting. After taking a 34-32 lead at the 17:21 mark, Rockford scored just 9 points the rest of the half and fell by a final score of 57-43. Rockford is now 3-16 against Judson since 1989 and has lost 15 straight meetings in the series.
Senior forward Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) was the leading scorer for the Regents on Friday. Lawler scored 9 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and had one steal in the game.
Guard Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) had a well rounded game for Rockford. Ryczek scored 7 points, got 5 rebounds, had 2 assists and one steal.
After a week off, the ladies will return to the court on Saturday, December 29th when they will participate in the DePauw University Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament. Rockford opens the tournament against Spalding University with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
