ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford College women's basketball team fell to Benedictine University 77-67 Saturday afternoon at the Seaver Center. The Regents came out hot the 1st half and took a 16-9 lead when junior guard Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) nailed a 3 pointer from the wing to give the Regents a seven point lead. The Regents shot 48% from the field and 54% from the 3 point line in the opening half of play. Benedictine would battle back out rebounding the Regents 21-14 and head into the half down just four, 35-31.
The Regents did carry the momentum they had built over the first 20 minutes into the 2nd half and open on a 7-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 42-33 concluding off a pair of free throws from senior forward Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City). However, it would be all Eagles game from there on as Benedictine went on a 21-3 run to take a 54-45 lead with 11:08 remaining in the 2nd half. The Regents did not go into the night quietly as they made a run of their own to tie the game at 62-62 with 4:33 remaining, but costly turnovers and missed free throws proved to be too much for the Regents to overcome as Benedictine closed the game on a 15-5 run.
Ryczek led the Regents with a team-high 14 points and 5 rebounds. Junior forward Lindsay Lengjak (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) scored 11 points with 6 rebounds. Junior guard Arielle Nichols (Tampa, Fla./Land O' Lakes) provided a spark off the bench for the Regents shooting 4-7 from the 3-point line to finish with 12 points.
The Regents will have a week off before they host Wheaton College on December 14. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
