ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Regents and Cougars went back and forth last night in the Seaver Center battling it out in a hard fought 4 set match. Both teams entered the match with an 0-2 record in Northern Athletics Conference play and were each looking to snap a 4-game losing streak. It was a highly competitive match all evening with two of the four sets taking more the required 25 points for a victory. Concordia University Chicago ended up winning the first and second sets 28-26 and 25-10 before the Regents stormed back to take a thrilling third set 27-25. However, that Cougars would end the match capturing the fourth set 25-18.
Rockford was led by a pair of seniors and a sophomore on Wednesday night. Senior Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pear City) had possibly her best match so far this season. Lawler was a force on both the offensive and defensive side recording her second double-double of the season and setting season-highs with 15 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) recorded her first double-double of the season. Scheri also set a season high with 15 kills to go along with 10 digs. Senior Jossilyn Jones (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) recorded 20 digs for the second time this season. Jones has had at least 10 digs in 10 of team's 12 matches so far this season.
The Regents volleyball team returns to the court on Friday when they head to Grinnell, Iowa for a two day tournament. Rockford opens the tournament on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. when the play Grinnell College.
