MILWAUKEE, Wis. - It has been a difficult start to the season for a Rockford College volleyball team that was expecting to compete at a high level in the Northern Athletics Conference and make the NAC Tournament for the third consecutive season. After starting the season 0-4 in NAC play, Rockford entered Saturday's game looking for its first conference win when it the team went on the road to play the Alverno College Inferno. Rockford accomplished just that defeating the Inferno 3-1 to get itself back on track. The Regents have never lost to the Inferno since joining the NAC in the fall of 2006 and improved their record to 7-0 versus Alverno.

Each of the first two sets were close and could have gone either way; however, the Regents used late runs in both sets to seal the victory and take a 2-0 lead. After using a timeout with the score tied at 20-20, the Regents ran off 5 of the next 6 points to win the opening set 25-21. The end of set number two was a mirror image of the previous set as Rockford took a timeout with the score tied at 21-21. Rockford proceeded to score 4 of the next 6 points to capture set number two and take a 2-0 lead. The Regents dropped the third set 18-25 but rebounded nicely in the next set and cruised to a 25-16 win in the forth set to win the match 3-1. 

Senior Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) continues to lead the offensive charge for the Regents. Lawler notched her 5th double-double in 7 matches and her second straight. The senior lead the team with 13 kills and 14 digs in the match to go along with 3 service aces and 4 blocks.

Sophomore Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) and senior libero Jossilyn Jones (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) both performed well in the Regents victory. Scheri narrowly missed her third double-double of the season. The Cortland native smashed 9 kills and recorded 12 digs in the match for the Regents. Jones tied for the team-high with 14 digs and added an assist to her totals.

The volleyball team will look to build upon today's win on Tuesday, October 2nd when they travel to Madison, Wis. to face the Edgewood College Eagles. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
