ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford College women's basketball team came into Wednesday nights game looking for back to back wins for the first time this season. After coming off a win against MSOE, the Regents played host to 3rd place Concordia University Chicago. CUC got on the board first and jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before the Regents would respond with a jumper from junior forward Jessica Bjerning (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein). The Regents were able to tie the game at 6-6 with four straight points from junior guard Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) but that would be the closest the Regents got to taking the lead all night.
The Cougars ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 30-22 lead at the half. The Regents committed 14 first half turnovers compared to the Cougars 6 but were able to outrebound CUC 19-17.
The 2nd half would be all Cougars as they broke the game open with a 19-5 run to start the half to take a 48-27 lead. Rockford's defense was unable to stop CUC in the paint getting outscored 36-16. CUC was able to turn 22 Rockford turnovers in to 26 points while Rockford was only able to turn 11 CUC turnovers into 6 points. Concordia Chicago would take the final possession and dribble out the clock on their way to a 71-56 win.
Rockford was lead by Ryczek who finished with a team-high 18 points and 5 rebounds. Senior forward Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) just missed a double-double finishing with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Destiny Chaney (Belleville, Ill./O'Fallon Township) finished with 8 points and 7 assists.
Rockford's next game will be on the road against Lakeland University, January 19th. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM
