ROCKFORD, Ill. - With the 2012-13 season coming to a close, the Rockford College women's basketball team looked to finish on a three game winning streak and carry that momentum into the Northern Athletic Conference tournament as the Regents played host to the Dominican University Stars. 

Despite scoring the opening basket of the game, the Regents found themselves in a hole early on as the Stars jumped out to a 8-4 lead as the Regents missed four straight shots at one point. The Regents got back on track by turning to the full court press. The Regents forced 14 Dominican turnovers in the 1st half, leading to 11 Regents points. Rockford capped off the 1st half with 6 straight points, ending with a layup from junior guard Cierra Johnson (St. Louis, Mo./O'Fallon Township) to take a 33-23 lead at the break.

The 2nd half saw much of the same from the Regents as they continued with the pressure and took a 45-31 lead off a layup by senior forward Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City). Rockford forced another 13 turnovers in the half and stretched their lead to 20 points off another layup by Lawler. Rockford dribbled out the clock on their next possession on way to a 68-51 victory. 

Rockford was lead by Nicole Lawler who finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Cierra Johnson ended with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard Erin Ryczek (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) scored 11 points to go with 3 assists. The Regents end the regular season 8-17, 6-11 NAC clinching the #7 seed in the Northern Athletics Conference tournament. The Regents have made the NAC tournament 5 of the last 6 years with their last appearance coming in 2010-11.

Rockford will square off against the #2 seed Concordia University Wisconsin February 16 in Mequon Wis. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
