FORT MYERS, Fla. - After slugging their way to two victories on opening day, the Regents bats were silenced as they fell to Franklin & Marshall College 5-2 and Ohio Wesleyan University 8-3 Monday morning at Lee County Complex.
After falling behind 2-0 early in game 1, Rockford was able to tie the game at 2-2 in the third inning in part to seniors Jossilyn Jones (Rockford, Ill./Guilford), and Jessica Segalla (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem). After a leadoff double by sophomore 3rd baseman Miranda Walker (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) Jones came through with a one out single up the middle to put the Regents on the board. One hitter later Segalla ripped a 2-out single to left field to plate Jones and tie the game. Rockford mustered four hits for the game with all of them coming through the first three innings. The Regents gave up three more runs along the way as they fell to Franklin & Marshall 5-2.
In game 2 against Ohio Wesleyan, Rockford jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Jossilyn Jones singled up the middle. After a sacrifice bunt, Jessica Segalla drove her home with a single to left field giving Rockford the lead. The fourth inning was the backbreaker for Rockford as Ohio Wesleyan scored seven of their eight runs on six hits, one Rockford error, and a hit by pitch.
Rockford answered in the top of the 5th, when senior Nicole Lawler (Pearl City, Ill./Pearl City) came through with a two out bases loaded walk. Rockford tacked on another run with a wild pitch making the score 8-3 through 5 innings. That was all for the Regents as they were unable to plate any more runs as they fell to Ohio Wesleyan University 8-3
The Regents are currently 2-2 on their spring trip. Seniors Jossilyn Jones and Nicole Lawler have each recorded hits in all 4 games the Regents have played this year. Rockford will face New Jersey City University and Curry College on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 5 PM & 7 PM
