LOVES PARK, Ill. - One day after playing at Division I University of Illinois-Chicago, the Rockford College baseball team returned home to host #18 Illinois Wesleyan University. Prior to Tuesday's game Rockford had won ten of its last twelve games including eight straight. However, the Titans are one of the top teams in Illinois and proved it on Wednesday defeating Rockford 12-2.
The Regents pitching staff struggled to control the high-powered Titan offense early in the game. Rockford surrendered 12 runs in the first four innings before its offense broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Cole Logemann (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) and Daryn Streed (Belvidere, Ill./North) led off the fourth with back-to-back single putting runners on first and second with no outs. After a runner got picked off, junior Chris Senn (Apple Valley, Calif./Silverado) crushed his fourth home run of the season to cut the Titan lead down to 12-2. However, Rockford was unable to get any closer and ultimately fell to Illinois Wesleyan 12-2.
On the mound the Regents were led by Zac Wolf (LaSalle, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) and Sean Gillette (Sterling, Ill./Sterling). Wolf pitched a perfect sixth inning retiring the Titans in order and striking out a batter. Gillette also threw one inning in relief surrendering one hit but no runs and struck out out one Titan.
At the plate it was again Daryn Streed who paced the offense. Streed went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored. Chris Senn finished 1-for-3 with a home run and drove in Rockford's only two runs of the game.
The Regents baseball team closes out its regular season on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Benedictine University. Currently Rockford holds the four seed in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament but can still win the NAC with a sweep and some help. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1 PM at Aviators Stadium.
