ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team squared off at home Friday night against Beloit College in a rematch of Rockford's season opening game in the Beloit Tournament. It looked as though things were going to finish the same way they did when the teams first faced off with Beloit winning in three sets but Rockford stormed back to tie the game at two sets a piece.
Beloit won the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-19. The short break between the second and third set allowed the Regents to regroup and refocus. Rockford came out strong and dominated the third and forth sets, winning both sets 25-20, to force a decisive fifth set. The Regents fell behind early in the set but came back to tie the score at 9 all. However, the Buccaneers scored the next point to grab a 10-9 lead and never look back winning the final set 15-9.
Katelyn Hasken (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) had a huge game for the Regents. She finished with a match-high 20 kills on 49 attempts and also added 16 digs. Erin Pederson (Oregon, Ill./Oregon) tallied 11 kills on 24 attempts to lead the Regents with a .292 kill percentage. Freshman Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) set up Hasken and Pederson all match, finishing with 32 assists and 13 digs.
