ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University volleyball team lost their home opener to Loras College on Wednesday night at the Seaver Center. The Regents lost in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) to a tough Loras team. The loss drops the Regents record to 1-4.
Rockford had a hard time finding the ground with their attacks throughout the match as they were out killed 42 to 19. Credit that to a strong Loras defense as the Regents finished with three less attack errors than their opponent. Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) led the way for the Regents with 9 kills and a .261 kill percentage. She also recorded 11 digs. Heather Hyland (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) was second on the team with three kills and also added one solo block. Setting up the hitters throughout the match was freshman Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) who had 13 assists and tied for the match lead with two aces.
The Regents return home for their next game on September 10th when they open up their conference schedule with Alverno at 7:00 pm. They hit the road again after that to play Dubuque and Aurora in the Aurora Tournament at 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
