AURORA, Ill. - It was a difficult day for the Rockford University men's basketball team as the Regents fell 105-71 on the road to rival Aurora University. Rockford played well in the opening minutes of the game and held a 10-9 advantage with 17:28 remaining in the first half. However, the Spartans then went on a 14-0 run to take a 23-10 lead and never looked back. The Regents were never able to cut the Spartan lead back down to single-digits as they trailed 50-22 at halftime and ultimately lost 105-71.
David Dixon (Bellwood, Ill./St. Joseph) and Scott Suchy (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) were the lone starters to crack double-figures in scoring. Suchy poured in a team-high 16 points along with 4 rebounds while Dixon added 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Zach Wallace (Rockford, Ill./Belvidere) had a good all-around game for the Regents with 9 points on 4-of-7 shooting along with 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 blocked shot.
Off the bench the Regents were led by sophomore John O'Bryan (Richmond, Ky./Madison Central) who scored 10 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Corey LeGros (Rockford, Ill./Halstrom) was a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free throw line for a total of 8 points.
The men's basketball team returns home on Saturday, February 1st to face the MSOE Raiders. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
