ROCKFORD, Ill.- Friday night at the Seaver Center featured a match-up between the Rockford University volleyball team and the visiting Edgewood College Eagles. The Regents looked to shake off a mid-season funk while the Eagles looked to rebound from a loss after winning four straight matches.
Rockford started slow and dropped the first two sets to Edgewood. Edgewood took the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-10. After the second set intermission, the Regents came out fired-up and took the third set 25-21. Unfortunately, Rockford could not continue its comeback and dropped game four 25-12 and the match 3-1 to Edgewood.
As a group the Regents struggled to mount a consistent offensive attack. Kayla Kurz (Franklin Grove, Ill. / Ashton-Franklin Center) stood out for Rockford with a team-high eight kills with only two attack errors on 15 total attack attempts. She also had a match-high three block assists. Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) had another all-around good game finishing second on the team with five kills with no errors on 11 attack attempts. She also had 21 assists and 11 digs. Rockford finished with two total block solos and ten total block assists.
Tomorrow Rockford will honor four senior volleyball players in what will be their last regular season home game. The Regents will face MSOE with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
