MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University women's soccer team cruised to an easy 2-0 win on Saturday over the Mount Mary College Blue Angels. The Regents controlled nearly every facet of the match as Rockford outshot Mount Mary 31-4 including a 20-2 edge in shots on goal. The win gives the Regents their fourth victory of the year and ties for the most wins in a season since 2006.
Despite the huge edge in both shots and shots on goal, the match was scoreless for nearly the entire first half. With less than five minutes remaining before halftime, junior Chrissy Hermann (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) found the back of the net in the 41st minute with her team leading third goal of the season. The Regents would then take that 1-0 lead into the intermission.
The second half saw a similar flow as there was just one goal scored. Sophomore Allyson Fillmore (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) put the Regents up 2-0 in the 61st minute when she tallied her third goal of the season to once again tie Hermann for the team lead. With a two goal lead in the second half, Rockford then relied on its defense and goalkeeping for the remainder of the match as the Regents coasted to the 2-0 win.
Freshman Jessica Bergmann (Kenosha, Wis./Westosha Central) was simply sensation in goal for Rockford on Saturday. Bergmann notched her first collegiate win and shutout in goal as the freshman faced just two shots making saves on both.
The women's soccer team has just two matches remaining on its 2014 schedule. The Regents will be at home on Friday, October 24 at 3:00 p.m. against Maranatha Baptist University. Rockford then closes out its season at home against Illinois Tech on Wednesday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m.
