MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University volleyball team snapped its 8-game losing streak on Wednesday night with an impressive win on the road against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. After dropping the opening set of the match, the Regents stormed back to win the next three sets to earn a convincing 3-1 victory.
In the win, Rockford had some of its best performances of the season both collectively as a team and individually. As a team the Regents recorded a season-high 60 kills and tied their season-high with 55 assists. Rockford also continued to play well at the net as the Regents entered the match ranked third in Division III averaging 2.55 blocks per set (2.57 blocks/set currently leads DIII). Although Rockford was slightly below its season average in tonight's match, the ladies still did an excellent job at the net with 10 block assists and 1 solo block.
Junior Kayla Kurz (Franklin Grove, Ill./Ashton-Franklin Center) was absolutely phenomenal playing perhaps the best match of any Regent this season. Kurz recorded season-highs in kills (21), digs (18) and hitting percentage (.439). The junior finished off her stat line with 4 of Rockford's 10 block assists in the match.
Senior Laina Scheri (Cortland, Ill./Dekalb) put together her second straight double-digit kill performance. Scheri notched a season-high 16 kills on just 39 attempts for a solid .309 hitting percentage. The senior also tallied 7 digs, 2 service aces and 2 block assists.
Sophomore setter Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) also had possibly her best effort this year. The sophomore had a season-high with 41 assists along with 7 kills, 8 digs and 1 service ace.
Senior outside hitter Katelyn Hasken (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) recorded her second consecutive and seventh overall double-double of the season. Hasken tallied 11 kills, 14 digs and 1 service ace.
The Regents will close out their season this Saturday, October 25 at Benedictine University. The match has a scheduled start time of 11:00 a.m.
