ANKENY, Iowa - The Rockford University women's soccer team won its second straight match on Saturday as the Regents shutout the Eagles by a 2-0 final. Rockford is now 3-1 in its last 4 matches including recording back-to-back wins for the first time since the Regents opened the 2011 season 2-0.
All of the scoring in the match took place in the final 5 minutes of the first half. Sophomore Allyson Fillmore (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) struck first in the 41st minute with the first goal of the match. It was Fillmore's second goal of the season and her first game-winning goal this year. Rockford was not done however as the Regents found the back of the net once again a few minutes later. Forward Callie Davis (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood West) gave Rockford a 2-goal lead when she scored her second goal in as many matches. Davis was assisted on the play by junior Chrissy Hermann (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park).
Rockford then turned the match over to its defense and freshman goalkeeper Avery Jones (Tappahannock, Va./Essex) to seal the victory. The Regents allowed a total of just 2 shots the entire match both of which Jones made saves on to secure the 2-0 shutout win.
The Regents were in control for the entire match and dominated every statistical category. Rockford outshot Faith Baptist 16-2 including an impressive 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Callie Davis recorded a match-high 6 shots with 3 of them coming on goal; while Allyson Fillmore took 5 shots including registering a match-high 4 shots on goal.
The women's soccer team will go for its third straight win on Wednesday, October 8th when the Regents travel to Coe College. The match has a scheduled start time of 4:00 PM.
