MEQUON, Wis. - The men's soccer team hit the road for the second straight match this time taking on the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. The Regents went into the match looking for their first conference win of the season while the Falcons were hoping for their second NACC win. The match was close the entire first half before Concordia Wisconsin pulled away with four second half goals to win by a 6-1 final.
The Falcons and Regents were scoreless for nearly 20 minutes before Concordia Wisconsin took the lead. CUW scored a pair of goals in just over a one-minute span to grab the early 2-0 lead. However, the Regents answered back in the 30th minute cutting the Falcon lead in half. Freshman Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill./Thomas Jefferson) headed in a free kick off the foot of Nathan Hathcock (Poplar Grove, Ill./North Boone) pulling Rockford back within one goal at 2-1. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the first half as the Falcons took the lead into the intermission.
The second half did not go as well for Rockford as Concordia Wisconsin scored four more goals to pull away and secure the 6-1 win.
Rockford University goalkeeper Kyle Adams (St. Louis, Mo./Timberland) faced 26 shots and recorded a career-high 20 saves. The freshman now has 98 saves this season giving him 34 more saves than anyone else in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
The men's soccer team will continue its quest for its first NACC win of the year on Saturday, October 11th at Marian University. The match has a 1:00 p.m. scheduled start time.
