Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rockford Drops Season Finale

LISLE, Ill. - Needing a win and loses by both Marian and Lakeland, the Regents women's basketball team entered Tuesday's game with its playoff hopes still alive. However, it was the Benedictine University Eagles who were in control for the majority of the game en route to a 74-63 win.

After a slow start put the Regents down double-digits early in the first half, Rockford was never quite able to dig itself out the hole. The Eagles jumped out to a quick 15-2 lead less than five minutes into the opening half. However, their was no quit in the Regents as they continued to play hard and countered with a 9-2 run of their own to make it just a 6-point game with 13:40 remaining before halftime. Rockford continued to fight and chip away at the deficit until the Regents made it a 21-17 game forcing the Eagles to call a timeout. Unfortunately Benedictine came out of the timeout and promptly went on 10-0 run to push its lead up to 14 points. Rockford was unable to shrink the deficit going into halftime as the Regents entered the intermission trailing 46-29. The second half did not go according to plan either as Rockford never really threatened falling by a final score of 74-63.

Sophomore Diamond Williams (Carpentersville, Ill./Dundee-Crown) had her best game so far in a Regents uniform. Williams led the Regents in scoring with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench. The sophomore also tied for a team-high with 6 rebounds.

Seniors Lindsay Lengjak (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) and Destiny Chaney (Belleville, Ill./O'Fallon Township) each played well in their final collegiate game. Lengjak scored in double-figures for the twentieth time this season on Tuesday with 10 points. Her 6 rebounds also tied for the team-high. Chaney had a good all-around game for Rockford scoring 6 points with 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

The Rockford University women's basketball team finishes the season tied for 9th place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 9-16 overall record including a 6-14 NACC record.
