ROCKFORD, Ill.- Tuesday afternoon the Rockford University men's soccer team returned to Sam Greeley field to face the incoming Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders. At the time of the game MSOE stood atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 1-0 conference record and a 6-2 overall record. A young team compared to the experienced Raiders, the Regents knew coming in that it would be a tough fought game. The Raiders scored early but Rockford did not get discouraged. Despite the early goal and a 3-0 loss, Rockford played the Raiders tough all game.
MSOE was able to find the back of the net on a header off of a corner kick at the 5:59 mark. The Raiders would put constant and heavy pressure on the Regents all game but the defense played well and held strong for most of the game. The Raiders scored another goal around the 30 minute mark in the first half but would not score again until the last five minutes of the game.
In total MSOE had 25 shots against the Regents with 11 of those shots coming on goal. The score would have been worse if not for an outstanding game in net by freshman goalie Kyle Adams (St. Louis, Mo./Timberland). He defended multiple tough shots on goal and fought off 13 corner kicks by the Raiders. Rockford finished with three shots and one shot on goal by freshman Nathan Hathcock (Poplar Grove, Ill./North Boone).
The Regents return to action on Saturday September 27th for a 1:00 p.m. start against conference opponent Wisconsin Lutheran.
