ROCKFORD, Ill.- Coming off a weekend in which the Rockford University volleyball team went 2-2 in the Beloit Buc Blast Tournament, the Regents looked to continue its strong play against the visiting Mount Mary Blue Devils. After a bit of a slow start in game one, and battling off a late Blue Devil charge in game three, the Regents cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Mount Mary.
Mount Mary would get out to a quick lead in game one but it did not last long as Rockford came back strong from the early deficient and never looked back. The Regents eventually pulled away for a 25-16 win. In game two Rockford led from start-to-finish and cruised to a 25-15 win. Rockford was again cruising past Mount Mary in game three and was close to closing out another big win when the Blue Devils stormed back to make it a close game. But the Regents tightened up and closed the door on the Blue Devils and the game.
Katelyn Hasken (Lanark, Ill. / Eastland) led the way for the Regents and the game with 14 kills against just two attack errors. She also added five assists, five service aces, and nine digs for an all-around great game. Also having an overall great game was setter Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill. / Grant Community). She had a game-high 29 assists. Rossi also had six kills on only ten attempts. Senior Erin Pederson (Oregon, Ill. / Oregon) led the Regents with 13 digs and was second with eight kills.
Rockford looks to continue its winning ways with a host of games this weekend at the Northland College Tournament in Ashland, Wisconsin. On Friday they play Maranatha Baptist University at 10:00 a.m. and then Northland at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday they play Finlandia at 2:00 p.m. and Mount Mary at 6:00 p.m.
