WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Regents women's soccer team began its three-match road trip on Saturday as the ladies squared off against the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats. Saturday's meeting marked the sixth straight season the two schools have played each other with Maranatha winning all six contests. However, Rockford continues to show improvement, as the Sabercats 3-0 victory was by far the closest of all the matches.
Rockford played well for much of the match but the Sabercats were able to score early in each of the two halves. Maranatha broke the scoreless tie in the 3rd minute of the match to take an early 1-0 lead. The game would remain 1-0 until the Sabercats scored less than a minute into the second half to grab a 2-0 advantage. Maranatha's final goal came in the 71st minute of the match as Rockford fell 3-0 on the road.
Rockford goalkeeper Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) made nine more saves on Saturday. Mendoza now has 81 saves in twelve matches this year.
The RU women's soccer team returns to the field on Monday, October 12 at Millikin University. The match has a scheduled start time of 5:00 p.m.
