RIPON, Wis. - It was another tough day on Sunday for the Rockford University men's soccer team as the Regents fell 2-0 against the Ripon College Red Hawks. Once again the Regents played well for much of the match but were unable to finish strong in each of the two halves.
Ripon broke the scoreless tie in the 41st minute of the match off a fortuitous bounce. Ripon found the back off the net after a ball hit the cross bar and bounced to a Red Hawk who then scored the match's first goal. The score would remain 1-0 until the 89th minute when Ripon put the game away with a goal into the upper right corner of the net.
Offensively the Regents recorded a total of total 7 shots which was the most Rockford has had in a match in a month. Freshman Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) led the Regents with a trio of shots including one shot on goal. Anders-James Wermuth (Spring Green, Wis.) and Clayton Duffy (Stillman Valley, Ill.) tallied the other two shots on goal for Rockford with one each.
The RU men's soccer team returns to competition on Wednesday, October 14 at Concordia University Wisconsin. The match will begin at 4:00 p.m.
