MEQUON, Wis. - The Rockford University volleyball team fell 3-0 on Saturday at Concordia University Wisconsin to close out the 2015 season. Despite being swept in straight sets, the Regents hung with the Falcons for much of the afternoon but ultimately it was Concordia Wisconsin who was able to close out each set.
The first set went back and forth until midway through when the Falcons began to pull away. Rockford opened by scoring three of the first four points to grab a quick 3-1 lead. The two schools then began trading points as neither team was able to put the other away early in the set. However, with the set tied at 12-12 it was the Falcons who went on a 9-1 run en route to winning the set 25-17.
The second set followed a near identical pattern as the first with the Falcons using a large run midway through to take control. Rockford again began the set by taking an early led before Concordia Wisconsin battled back and pulled ahead. The Regents and Falcons then traded points during the next part of the set as Concordia Wisconsin held a 12-10 advantage midway through the set. From that moment on, the Falcons began to take control as they went on an 11-2 run and comfortably won the second set 25-15.
The third set was the tightest of all the sets as neither team was able to put the other team away. The set featured 11 ties with the largest lead being just 5 points by Concordia Wisconsin. Ultimately it wasn't decided until the final moments when the Falcons scored five of seven points to take a 24-20 lead. The Regents were able to score the next three points to get back within a single point, but unfortunately the Falcons won the set 25-23 and the match 3-0 on the very next point.
Katie Fowler (Stillman Valley, Ill.), Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.) and Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.) led the offensive charge for the Regents. For the second straight match Fowler led Rockford with a team-high 8 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace and 1 block assist. Storey finished with 6 kills, 5 digs, 3 block assists, and 2 assists. Rossi tallied a team-high 16 assists, 8 digs, and 4 kills.
The RU volleyball team finishes the season with a 7-19 overall record including a 1-10 NACC record.
