ANKENY, Iowa - The Rockford University women's soccer team continued to play some of its best soccer late in the season with a 5-0 road win against Faith Baptist Bible College. Tuesday's win was important for the Regents on multiple fronts. Rockford finished the 2015 season with more wins than in any other season over the past 10 years, and it was also the first time in the last ten seasons the Regents have had a three game-winning streak. Overall the program continues to improve as Rockford has now won more matches than in the previous season each of the past three years.
Tuesday's match was never close as the Regents rolled from start to finish. Rockford outshoot Faith Baptist 22-1 including a 13-1 edge in shots on goal. The Regents got off to fast start scoring a trio of goals in the first 20 minutes and took a 4-0 lead into halftime. Sophomore Morgan Bell (Rockford, Ill.) was the first of three Regents to find the back of the net on Tuesday scoring in the eleventh minute of the match. Less than ten minutes later, fellow sophomore Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.) extended Rockford's lead to 3-0 as she tallied a pair of goals in just a five minute period. Freshman Mackenzi Hesselbart (Elkhart, Ind.) scored Rockford's final goal of the half 39th minute to put her team up 4-0.
Rockford added one final goal in the second half when Melissa Macias (Posen, Ill.) found the back of the for the first time this season as the Regents ended the year with a 5-0 win.
Goalkeeper Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) needed to make just one save to pitch her fourth shutout of the season. The junior finished the year with 96 saves and was the winning goalkeeper in all five of Rockford's wins.
Giovana Ortega finished as Rockford's leading scorer with 12 goals and 4 assists for a total of 27 points.
Mackenzi Hesselbart scored 5 goals and had a team-high 4 assists. She also led the Regents with 3 game-winning goals.
