ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University men's basketball team began their season with an impressive win against Eureka College. Rockford cruised to a 100-77 victory to begin their season in style.
Zach Wallace (Rockford, Ill.) started out red hot for the Regents, with 18 of his game-high 27 points coming in the first half. Wallace paced the Regents offensively for the first eight minutes scoring 12 of the first 17 points. Wallace also added seven rebounds and a game-high two blocks to record a tremendous game for the Regents.
Offensively, Rockford recorded three other players in double-figures. Michael Murray (Princeton, Ill.) scored 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. Murray also played a team-high 36 minutes and tied for the game-high with six assists. Ross Arteaga (Mendota, Ill.) recorded 15 points and tied for the game-high six assists. John O'Bryan (Richmond, Ky.) had a great second half for the Regents, after getting into foul trouble before the half, with 11 points and finishing with 14 for the game. O'Bryan also added five assists and four rebounds.
Rockford not only dominated on the scoreboard, they outrebounded Eureka by a 50-31 margin. Rockford also shot just under 57% from the field compared to Eureka's 39%.
Also playing well for the Regents were Brandon Tyson (Joliet, Ill.) and Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.). Tyson recorded seven rebounds and six points while Diemer tallied nine rebounds to go along with eight points.
The Rockford University men's basketball team will return to action Friday, November 20 against Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis. with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
