ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University men's basketball team returned to the court to take on Loras College on Tuesday night in the Seaver Center. The Regents started off slow, falling behind by as many as 12 points in the first half, until they turned up the defense to notch an impressive comeback victory by the final of 72-61.
Rockford fell behind within the first minute 6-0 on three turnovers. Rockford began to mount their comeback and regained the lead at the 14 minute mark of the first half 11-10. However, the Regents could not withstand their lead as they fell behind by 12 points with three minutes left in the half. Rockford finished the first half on a 10-2 run to decrease the deficit to 39-35 at the half. In the second half, the Regents stifled the Duhawks, allowing only 22 points. Rockford held Loras to 23% from the field in the second half, compared to 46% in the first half. With the outstanding effort in the second half the Regents won by the final of 72-61.
Once again Michael Murray (Princeton, Ill.) was outstanding for the Regents. Murray recorded his fourth double-double, in as many games, scoring 20 points with 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals. His 20 points and 13 rebounds were a game-high. Zach Wallace (Rockford, Ill.) also had another fantastic game for Rockford. Wallace recorded 17 points with 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He also recorded a game-high 5 blocks. Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) played well for the Regents tallying 8 points and 6 rebounds. Ross Arteaga (Mendota, Ill.) also scored in double-figures with 11 points.
The Rockford University men's basketball team returns to action Saturday, November 28 to take on Dominican University at 2 p.m. in Schaumburg, Ill.
