ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Saturday to take on Dominican University in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference season-opener. Rockford could not complete a large comeback and ultimately fell 76-67 to Dominican.
The Regents scored the first four points of the game, but could not withstand the lead falling behind 24-14 after the first quarter. Rockford continued to struggle throughout the second quarter, ultimately trailing 37-24 at the half. The Regents closed the gap in the third quarter by turning up the defense, outscoring the Stars 10-2 off of turnovers in the quarter. At the end of the the third quarter Rockford had cut the deficit to four points, with the score being 54-50. Ultimately, Rockford could not complete the comeback and lost 76-67.
Cherith Roweton(Weableau, Mo.) recorded the best game of her young collegiate career scoring 13 points and adding 4 rebounds in only 15 minutes for the Regents. Her 13 points were a team-high. Casey Pettit(Rockford, Ill.)played well for Rockford recording 10 points with 3 rebounds and a team-high 3 steals. Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.) also played well for the Regents scoring 8 points to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.)recorded 11 points with 6 rebounds for Rockford as well.
The Rockford University women's basketball team will return to action Wednesday, December 2 to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Seaver Center with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
