ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team returned to action Tuesday night to face off against nationally ranked Benedictine University in the Seaver Center. Rockford and Benedictine traded baskets in the first half, but the Eagles took control in the second half, ultimately sinking the Regents 89-79.
The matchup began with the team's trading baskets leading to six lead changes throughout the first half. The Eagles took the lead with five minutes left in the first half and never surrendered it, leading the half 46-39. Michael Murray (Princeton, Ill.) poured in four first half three-point baskets, 14 for the game, to lead the Regents offensively at the half. In the second half, Rockford fell behind by double-digits and could not regain their footing. The closest the Regents got to to the Eagles was seven points but could not finish off the comeback, ultimately falling 89-79.
Murray recorded another impressive performance with a game-high 25 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 blocks and 2 steals. He was also a perfect 5 of 5 from the three-point line. John O'Bryan (Richmond, Ky.) poured in 19 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Zach Wallace (Rockford, Ill.) was the other Regent in double-figured with 15 points to go along with 5 rebounds.
The Rockford University men's basketball team will return to action Saturday, December 5 to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College at the Seaver Center with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m.
