ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Wednesday to take on Knox College at the Seaver Center. Rockford recorded their highest point total of the season with 92 points. The Regents also shot 50% from the field, which was the highest shooting percentage of the season. Unfortunately Rockford's impressive offensive performance came up short as they lost by a final of 123-92.
In the first quarter each team traded baskets until Knox took control with 6 minutes left and never relinquished the lead. The Regents were led by Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) who scored 8 points in the opening quarter. The Prairie Fire raced out to a 19-point lead in the second quarter, however, the Regents closed the gap with an 11-2 run in the final three minutes to trail 68-58 at the half. Rockford's offense faltered in the third quarter only scoring eight points. Due to a seven minute scoring drought they saw their deficit increase from 10 to 26 points, at the end of the third quarter, 92-66. The large deficit was too much to overcome in the fourth quarter as the Regents fell by a final of 123-92.
Offensively, Rockford had multiple impressive performances. Davis was terrific tonight scoring a team-high 21 points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) also had a fantastic game for the Regents tallying 20 points with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Taylor Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) scored a career-high 17 points and had 4 assists for Rockford. Casey Pettit (Rockford, Ill.) was the only other Regent in double-figure scoring with 10 points. She also added a team-high 3 steals. Katie Hart (Davis Junction, Ill.) filled up the stat sheet as well recording 8 points to go along with 11 rebounds, 8 assists and a team-high 3 steals.
