ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's soccer team came back home on Sunday to take on the Coe College Kohawks. The Regents and Kohawks played a highly competitive game throughout. Eventually it was Coe scoring two goals within four minutes to end the first half and winning by the final of 3-0.
Rockford was locked in a low scoring battle throughout the first half. As Coe took a 2-0 lead into halftime Rockford's best scoring opportunity came in the 33rd minute of the second half when Rebecca Krueger (Kiel, Wis.) had a shot go off of the crossbar leading to a rebound attempt by Mackenzi Hesselbart (Elkhart, Ind.) which required a tremendous diving save by the Kohawks goalie. Another opportunity came less than a minute later when Krueger had a free kick go off the post. Unfortunately Rockford was unable to find the back of the net as Coe scored one more goal and won with a final of 3-0.
Rockford had 10 shots with 5 coming on goal. Krueger led the way offensively with 4 of those 10 shots including 2 of which came off the crossbar and post.
The women's soccer team returns to the field on Tuesday September 9 at home against Blackburn College. The match will be played at Sam Greeley Field beginning at 2 p.m.
