ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Saturday to take on MSOE in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. The Regents had their hands full with the third place team in the NACC and hung tough with them throughout the game. Eventually, MSOE wore down Rockford, prevailing by the final of 75-64.
Immediately the Raiders jumped out to a lead in the opening quarter ultimately leading 17-10 at the break. The Regents saw a very balanced scoring attack with five different players scoring in the opening quarter. The second quarter continued in the same fashion as the first with MSOE expanding their lead to 38-25 at the half. However, the Regents continued to scratch and claw and did not allow the Raiders to expand on their lead throughout the second half. In fact, Rockford outscored MSOE 39-37 in the final two quarters but could not close out the comeback, ultimately falling 75-64. Both teams shot the ball well in the second half with the Regents at 43% and the Raiders at 53%. Rockford forced 16 turnovers on MSOE. Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) scored 12 of her team-high 19 points in the second half.
Leading Rockford offensively was Getzelman with 19 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Talayah Gordon Scott (Rockford, Ill.) added 13 points and 7 rebounds. Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.) was the only other Regent in double-figures with 12 points and 4 rebounds.
The Rockford University women's basketball team returns to action February 2 to take on Benedictine University at the Seaver Center with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
