MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University women's basketball team concluded its season on Saturday with a road game against the MSOE Raiders. Rockford entered the game looking to avenge a home loss earlier in the season when the Regents gave the Raiders all they could handle for much of the day. Saturday turned out to be a similar situation as Rockford played well for much of the afternoon, but it was once again MSOE who put together an outstanding second half to win by a final score of 57-45.
The first quarter went extremely well for the Regents as the ladies never trailed. Rockford used a balanced attack as six different Regents scored in the opening period. Senior Taylor Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) got the offense started by connecting on Rockford's first shot attempt of the game to give her team a 2-0 lead. The ladies would build their lead up to as many as five points with 3:04 remaining in the quarter after a made jumper from senior Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill.). Following an MSOE bucket, junior Talayah Gordon Scott (Rockford, Ill.) put Rockford back up five with under a minute remaining in the period. However, MSOE scored the final basket to make it a 13-10 game entering the second quarter.
The second quarter did not go as well for Rockford as the Raiders began to find some rhythm offensively. MSOE opened the quarter on an 8-2 run to take its first lead of the game. However, Amanda Davis answered back with a bucket of her own to pull Rockford within a single point. Unfortunately, from that moment forward the Raiders began to take control. MSOE closed the quarter on a 12-5 run to take a 30-22 lead into halftime.
The Regents really struggled to get anything going offensively in the second half as the Raiders continued to build upon their lead. MSOE scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to make it a 41-22 game. Rockford scored just 4 points in the period as the Raiders pushed their lead to 23 points entering the fourth quarter. The Regents were able to make a late run but never really threatened as the Raiders sailed to a 57-45 win.
Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) played well leading the Regents in both scoring and rebounding. Getzelman scored 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Senior Amanda Davis was the other Regent to crack double-figures on Saturday. Davis tallied 12 points and had 1 rebound.
Senior Taylor Davis and Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.) turned in solid all-around efforts for Rockford. Davis scored 8 points with 4 rebounds and 2 steals, while Key had 4 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block and 1 assist.
The RU women's basketball team finished the season with an overall record of 3-22 including a 1-19 mark in NACC play.
