Rockford Cruises To Third Straight Victory

ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University men's basketball team returned to action Tuesday to take on Illinois Tech in a non-conference matchup at the Seaver Center. Rockford coasted to their third straight victory by the final of 98-73.

The Regents wasted no time jumping out to an 8-0 lead within the first two minutes of the game thanks to Zach Wallace (Rockford, Ill.) and Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) scoring all of the points. However, Rockford allowed Illinois Tech to hang around and eventually take the lead with 13 minutes remaining. That was the final time the Scarlet Hawks had the lead. The Regents pushed their lead to 11 with just over 5 minutes remaining in the half and ultimately led 46-41 at the half.

Rockford stormed out of the locker room and quickly increased their lead to 16 due to a 15-2 run within the first four minutes of the half. Diemer powered the run with six points. The Regents ultimately did not allow the Scarlet Hawks to get back into the game, winning by the final of 98-73. Rockford used 11 three-point shots and were 50% from the field in the game. The defense was suffocating in the final half only allowing Illinois Tech to shoot 33.3% from the floor and forced eight turnovers.

Leading Rockford offensively was Diemer with a team-high 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Wallace recorded another double-double with 20 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. With the performance he now sits 63 points shy of the 1,000 point club, 16 rebounds shy of the 500 rebounds club, and 20 blocks shy of 150 career blocks. Brandon Tyson (Joliet, Ill.) led the bench in scoring with 14 points and 7 rebounds. John O'Bryan (Richmond, Ky.) added 11 points and 3 rebounds. Ross Arteaga (Mendota, Ill.) posted 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
