Regents Fall Twice To Muskies

ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University softball team returned to action Friday to take on Lakeland College in their final home doubleheader of the season. Rockford was looking to continue their success from two victories earlier in the week against Maranatha. Unfortunately, the Regents were unable to prevail in either game falling by the finals of 18-0 and 7-2.

In game one Stefaney Kenworthy (Veedersburg, Ind.) and Brooke Burris (Galatia, Ill.) combined to throw 5 innings in the first game on the bump. Offensively Rockford collected three hits in the game. Tallying the first hit of the game was Lynn Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.) in the second inning. Taylor Pilarczyk (Chicago, Ill.) added the second hit in the third inning. Brittany Bura (Chicago, Ill.) collected the third and final hit of the game in the fourth inning. Ultimately, Rockford fell by the final of 18-0.

In game two Abigail Wellwood (Rockford, Ill.) took the rubber and threw pretty well. She threw a complete game of 7 innings allowing 7 runs, 6 earned, on 11 hits. She held Lakeland in check for the final five innings allowing only three runs.

Offensively the Regents collected two runs on five hits. Rockford had one excellent scoring opportunity in the third inning when Mercedes Boykin (Belvidere, Ill.) led the inning off with a walk and after a pop out she was followed by Lisa Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.) who rocketed a single into center field to give the team first and second with nobody out. After a strike out, Bura hit a two-out, two run double to right-center field to get Rockford on the board for the first time all day. The clutch hit by Bura also trimmed the deficit to 5-2. Ultimately, the Regents were unable to scratch any other runs across falling by the final of 7-2.

The Rockford University softball team returns to action Saturday, April 30 to take on Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wis. with a scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
