ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University softball team returned to action Tuesday to take on Lawrence University. The Regents were looking for their first victory since returning from the spring trip. Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to receive that victory, falling by the finals of 10-3 and 12-3.
In game one Stefaney Kenworthy (Veedersburg, Ind.) took the bump and threw pretty well for the Regents completing all 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 7 runs, 5 of which were earned. She really ran into some tough luck as Rockford committed 6 errors in the first game leading to three unearned runs.
Offensively, the Regents could not get on the board until the fourth inning when Shannon LeGath (Racine, Wis.) ripped a double down the right field line to score Caitlin Eiben (Racine, Wis.) and Lynn Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.). After LeGath advanced to third on a wild pitch, Lisa Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.) hammered a double to the wall in left-center field to drive in LeGath to narrow the deficit to 4-3. Unfortunately, that was the closest Rockford got to Lawrence as they could not scratch any more runs across. The Regents lost by the final of 10-3.
In game two Brooke Burris (Galatia, Ill.)started on the rubber and struggled to find her command of the strike zone. However, the defense struggled to help her out as she gave up seven unearned runs. Following up Burris, was Abigail Wellwood (Rockford, Ill.) who completed the final inning of the game without giving up a run.
Offensively, the Regents took advantage of a Viking error in the first inning as Alex Storey (Deter, Mich.) reached on an error which scored Lisa Blakeley-Snyder to give the team their first run of the game and narrow the deficit to 5-1. Again in the third inning Rockford took advantage of another Lawrence error when Makayla Long (Wilmington, Ill.)scored to give them their second run of the game. In the final inning Lynn Blakeley-Snyder walked to bring in Storey to score the final run of the game for Rockford. Ultimately, the Regents dropped the second game by the final of 12-3.
Playing well for Rockford were Lisa Blakeley-Snyder who collected two hits with an RBI double and one run scored on the day. Eiben got on base in all three plate appearances going 1-for-1 with two walks. Storey recorded two hits and one walk on the day.
