Rockford Notches First Victory Of The Season Against Mount Mary

ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University volleyball team returned to action tonight to take on Mount Mary University. Rockford had just lost a heartbreaking match in five sets to Beloit College Tuesday night. Rockford was searching for their first victory of the year and they earned it tonight. The Regents swept the Blue Angels 3-0, by the finals of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-15.

In the first set Rockford took it to Mount Mary, taking a commanding lead and not relinquishing it. They ended up winning by the final of 25-18. The Regents totaled 9 kills on 33 attempts with a hitting percentage of .091. Rockford got stronger as the match went on, again, taking a huge lead and coasting to the victory in the second game. The team tallied 8 kills on 37 attempts and a .108 hitting percentage in the second set. The Regents jumped out to yet another giant lead in the third set and won by the final of 25-15. Rockford totaled 13 kills on 33 attempts for a .273 hitting percentage. The team easily played their best volleyball of the match in the third set to close out Mount Mary. 

Leading the Regents on the night were senior Liberty Hartman (Freeport, Ill.) who had a team-high 10 kills, 4 block assists, 7 digs and 1 service ace. Senior Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.) recorded a match-high 22 assists and 15 digs for a double-double. She also tallied 4 kills and 3 service aces. Sophomore Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.) added 8 kills and 8 digs. Freshmen Kayla Barthels (Fort Worth, Texas) and August Guest (Lahaina, Hawaii) both added 8 digs. 

The Rockford University volleyball team returns to action Friday, September 30 to take on Benedictine University at the Seaver Center with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
