ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's soccer team returned to action today to take on Bethany Lutheran College at home. The Regents are currently in the middle of three games in three consecutive days. Rockford played well in the first half before running out of gas in the second half falling by the final of 3-0.
Rockford and Bethany Lutheran were locked in a stalemate for the entire first half. The Regents had outstanding play from Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) in the opening half. Mendoza stopped five shots on outstanding diving efforts to end the Vikings' scoring threats in the first half. With the great defensive effort in the opening half, the game was tied going into the half 0-0. In the second half, the Regents could not keep the Vikings off the board for long in the second half as they fell behind in the 54th minute. Eventually, Bethany Lutheran added two more goals to push the final to 3-0.
Leading the Regents on the day were Melissa Macias (Posen, Ill.) and Samantha Moreno (East Moline, Ill.) each recorded one shot both coming on goal in the game. Mendoza added five saves on the day.
The Rockford University women's soccer team returns to action Tuesday, September 6 at Benedictine University with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
