Camacho's Gem Leads Rockford To Split With #16 Augustana

MOLINE, Ill.- The Rockford University baseball team returned to action today to take on the #16 Augustana College Vikings. The Regents were aiming to bounce back after four straight losses. They did so in a huge way earning a split over nationally ranked Augustana. Rockford won by the final score of 2-0 and then fell by the final of 7-6 in 10 innings.

Starting on the mound for the Regents was David Camacho (Elk Grove, Ill.) in game one. Camacho absolutely dominated the Vikings throwing a complete game shutout allowing only five hits. He earned his third victory of the season with the gem. Camacho was provided with two early runs and that was all he needed to stymie an explosive Vikings lineup.

Rockford immediately jumped on the board in the first inning when Patrick O'Malley (Elk Grove, Ill.) hit a two-run single down the right field line to drive in Chris Carlson (Schaumburg, Ill.) and Bryce Hinkelman (Ottawa, Ill.). The early runs proved to be the difference in the game and led the Regents to a 2-0 victory.

In game two, the Regents hopped out to another large lead scoring four runs in the first inning. The scoring began when a wild pitch brought in Dalvin Ramos (Chicago, Ill.) from third base after three straight singles. Two batters later, Michael Tosado (Chicago, Ill.) hit a three-run single to right field to drive in Josh Bergbreiter (Elk Grove, Ill.), Cole Logemann (Lena, Ill.) and Jose Miranda (Yuma, Ariz.). The Regents took the early 4-0 lead.

Rockford added two more runs in the second and third innings. In the second, Logemann hit an RBI fielders choice to plate Nathan Burris (Oglesby, Ill.). In the third, the Regents took advantage of an Augustana error when Britton Seivert (Rockford, Ill.) hit an RBI single to through the left side of the infield to drive in Tosado, who reached on the error. The runs gave Rockford a 6-0 lead. Unfortunately, The Vikings fought back to score the final seven runs of the game to win by the final of 7-6 in 10 innings.

Starting on the mound was Thomas Bolen (Tucson, Ariz.). Bolen threw 5 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3. Dalton Morris (Somonauk, Ill.) gave up one run in 2/3 inning pitched. Chad Thompson (Morton Grove, Ill.) came in and shut down the Vikings over 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit. Spencer Lentz (Stillman Valley, Ill.) came in to throw 1/3 innings pitched before giving way to Ben Kolkmeyer (Belvidere, Ill.) who concluded the game.

Leading the Regents offensively on the day were Patrick O'Malley going 4-for-8 with a two-run single. Nathan Burris went 4-for-9 with a run scored. Mitchell Gorsuch (Cherry Valley, Ill.) went 3-for-5 on the day. Logemann, Ramos and Bergbreiter each collected multiple hits on the day.

RU returns to action Tuesday, March 28 to take on Loras College in Loves Park, Ill. with a scheduled start time of 5 p.m.
