Hot-Shooting Eagles Defeat Regents

LISLE, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (5-15, 3-12 NACC) fell 80-52 on Tuesday evening at the Benedictine University Eagles (15-5, 12-3 NACC). The Eagles were on fire from the floor most of the night making 52.8% (28-of-53) of the their shot attempts including 10 three-point baskets. Conversely Rockford connected on 30.5% (18-of-59) of its shots and a trio of three-pointers. Benedictine also held a large advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Regents 45-31.

It was a difficult night for the Regents as they led for a total of one minute and 43 seconds. Junior Nicole Silvers (Bryon, Ill.) gave Rockford its only lead of the game when she drained the first basket of the night to put the Regents out in front 3-0. Unfortunately from that moment forward it was all Eagles. Benedictine scored 15 of the next 17 points to take a double-digit lead heading into the second quarter. The Eagles would extend their advantage to as many as 41 points before ultimately winning the game and the season series.

Senior Katie Hart (Davis Junction, Ill.) scored in double-digits for the second straight game. Hart finished with a team-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting and 4 steals. Linzy Keller (Rockford, Ill.) also had a nice game off the bench with 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) and Katlyn Fiorucci (Machesney Park, Ill.) each added 6 points off the bench. Collins also tallied 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.

The RU women's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, February 3 at Aurora University. Tip-off is set for 4:15 PM.
