Regents Swept by Inferno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University softball team (2-16, 0-4 NACC) had its first true road games of the season on Monday when the Regents traveled to take on the red hot Alverno College (11-7, 3-1 NACC). The Inferno entered today's games winners of six of their last seven including a split with NACC preseason favorite, Concordia University Wisconsin. Alverno kept that momentum going as the Inferno jumped out to big leads early in both games. In the opener, the Inferno struck for three runs in the first and four more in the second to take a quick 7-0 lead. Alverno would tack on three more runs in the fourth and take game one by a final score of 10-0. The nightcap followed a similar pattern as Alverno scored two runs in the first and three in the second to leap in front 5-0. The Inferno would add three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 8-0 win and the sweep.

Offensively Rockford had three players record a hit on Monday. Shannon LeGath (Sturtevant, Wis.) had an excellent day at the plate, tallying a hit in both games. LeGath finished the afternoon going 2-for-4. Freshmen Gretchen Schrubbe (Elgin, Ill.) and McCathran Andrew (Rockford, Ill.) each had one hit and finished the day 1-for-4.

The RU softball team returns home on Wednesday, April 4 against Mount Mary University. First pitch is set for 3 PM at the Smith Athletic Field.
