ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University volleyball team (2-8, 0-1 NACC) opened NACC play on Wednesday night when it hosted the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors (5-4, 1-0 NACC). The Regents fought hard but did not start NACC play how they had hoped, falling to the Warriors in three straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-18.
- It was a highly contested battle throughout the first set as Rockford and Wisconsin Lutheran exchanged points for most of the set.
- The first set saw two ties beginning with 9-9.
- From there the Warriors took advantage making it an 18-13 game.
- Rockford rallied back scoring five unanswered points to tie the game back up at 18-18.
- Unfortunately, WLC scored the next seven points to take a 1-0 lead over the Regents.
- The Warriors carried the winning momentum into the second set as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
- Wisconsin Lutheran took the second set by a score of 25-10, taking a 2-0 lead over Rockford.
- In the third set the Warriors jumped out to another early lead when it saw itself up 20-9.
- Rockford went on a 9-3 run to come storming back making it a 23-18 game.
- However, WLC would not surrender its lead going on to score the next two points to win in three straight sets.
- Emily Johannes (Eau Claire, Wis.) led the way for Rockford as she had a team-high 7 kills.
- Johannes was only three kills short of a double-double as she led the Regents with 10 digs on the night.
- Casey Sheetz (Rockford, Ill.) finished with a team-high 13 assists.
- The Rockford University women's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, September 15 for a pair of games when it hosts Mount Mary and Silver Lake during the RU Invitational.
- All games will be played at UW Health Sports Factory in Downtown Rockford.
- The first match against Mount Mary has a scheduled start time of 11 AM.
- The second match versus Silver Lake is scheduled to begin at 3 PM.
