Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rockford Concludes its Season at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team (6-13-1, 3-8-0 NACC) dropped its final match of the season, 4-0, on the road Wednesday night to the Benedictine University Eagles (8-7-1, 8-3-0 NACC). Statistically the match was very close; however, it was the Eagles who were able to capitalize on their opportunities. Benedictine had a slight edge in both total shots (15-13) and shots on goal (9-7). Unfortunately, the Eagles found the back of the night twice in each half en route to the victory.

  • Benedictine jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, with a goal in the opening five minutes of the match.
  • Rockford had a chance to answer in the 17th minute of the match. Ryan Munch tallied the Regents' first shot on goal but was denied by the BenU keeper.
  • Benedictine would then score its second goal of the match in the 35th minute to take a 2-0 advantage into the half.
  • Unfortunately, things got off to a rocky start for the Regents in the second half.
  • The Eagles found the back of the net in the 47th and 49th minutes to extend their lead to 4-0.
  • However, the Regents continued to fight and had multiple scoring opportunities over the remainder of the match.
  • Caleb Warmbier had a pair of shots on goal over the next 14 minutes, but unfortunately, was denied by the BenU goalie both times.
  • Rockford also had two chances late in the match, one by Cruz Marquez and the other by Armando Trujillo. However, Rockford was unable to find the back of the net, as the Eagles held on for the win.

  • Caleb Warmbier led the Regent offense with a season-high 6 shots, including 2 shots on goal.
  • Ryan Munch finished with 2 shots, both of which came on goal. Munch ends the season with a team-leading 8 goals, which currently ties him for eighth most in the NACC.
  • Ethan Bergen also tallied 2 shots.
  • Adam Pedro, Cruz Marquez and Armando Trujillo all had one shot on goal.
  • Francesco Martincig had 4 saves in the match, bringing his season total to 79. Martincig finished the regular season tied for the NACC lead with 3 solo shutouts and was fourth in the conference in saves.
