Regents Fight Hard Against Cougars

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (0-2, 0-1 NACC) loses triumphant battle to Concordia University Chicago (1-0, 1-0 NACC) 69-58. The Regents could not hold on as the Cougars kept a 10-point lead for most of the game. Rockford came out and held its own in the first few minutes, even taking the lead. The Regents charge was led by Neve Yerk, who dropped a career high 21 points. Emily Cox also contributed with a 15 point game.

  • The Regents took control of the lead early in the game when Emily Cox hit a three point jumper and Neve Yerk put together a string of scoring opportunities to lead the Cougars 8-6.
  • Unfortunately, the Cougars tied it up 8-8 before running away with the lead. 
  • Concordia increased its lead to 19-12 with 3:47 left to play in the first quarter. 
  • The Cougars hit a three point basket to close out the first quarter 22-12.
  • Lexy Perez drained a three pointer to trail the Cougars 25-17.
  • Concordia's Kaylah Koehler made a three point bucket to lead 31-17.
  • Emily Cox answered with a three point basket of her own decrease the gap, 31-20.
  • The Regents came within five points when Kaylynne Terry hit a jumper to make it 34-29.
  • The Cougars led 38-30 going into halftime.
  • Concordia was off to a fast start in the third quarter, leading 42-33.
  • Neve Yerk dropped a big three point basket with 5:19 left to play in the third quarter bringing the score to 48-38.
  • Rockford's Emily Cox hit another three pointer to keep the Regents in the game, 59-41.
  • The third quarter ended with Concordia leading 60-45.
  • The Cougars started to pull away, going up by 20 points early in the fourth quarter making it 68-48.
  • The Regents inched their way back, highlighted by an and-1 from Sammi Russell to trail 68-56.
  • However, the Cougars outlasted the Regents and took home the victory, 69-58.

 

  • Neve Yerk had a career high game with 21 points, while also having 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 3 blocks.
  • Emily Cox recorded 15 points going 5-9 from three point range, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
  • Lexy Perez had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.
