AURORA, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-9, 0-8 NACC) lost 97-38 to Aurora University (9-2, 6-1 NACC). The Regents struggled to gain ground against the Spartans. Linzy Keller was the leading scorer for Rockford with 13 points going 7-15 from the free-throw line and 3-10 from the field. Sammi Russell had 7 points coming off the bench. Emily Cox added 6 points and Jazsmin Blue led the team with a commanding 10 rebounds.
- Rockford took an early 3-2 lead with a made layup from Katlyn Fiorucci.
- Aurora took over jumping out to a 21-4 point lead with 2:11 left in the first quarter.
- The first quarter ended with the Spartans up 28-4.
- The second quarter started with a made free-throw by Emily Cox. The Regents trailed 28-5.
- Rockford went on to score four more times in the second quarter. Sammi Russell contributed with a layup and a jumper, while Emily Cox added a layup and Linzy Keller hit a free-throw.
- The Regents went into the second half with Aurora leading 48-12.
- The third quarter was better for the Regents with seven scoring opportunities. However, the Spartans lead was too much as it increased to 76-26 by the end of the third quarter.
- Courtney Sutherland hit the Regents only 3-pointer with 9:37 left in the game. Rockford trailed 79-29.
- Sammi Russell and Linzy Keller both had layups in the fourth quarter to try and limit the damage. But the deficit was too much with the Regents losing 97-38.
The RU women's basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday, January 14 at Benedictine University. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
